Wedding Rings

CONGRATULATIONS!

You are getting married!

Now one of the most important things about getting married is the wedding ring. So here are a few things to help you to decide about the wedding ring such as why we wear wedding rings and which type of rings to chose to match your personality and lifestyle.

So let's start with why we wear wedding rings!

We wear wedding rings to show a commitment to each other. The circle of the ring symbolises the everlasting love and commitment that is never ending. So that is the importance if the wedding ring, but have you ever wondered why we wear the ring on the third finger of the left hand?

Well it's because in the old days they said that there is a vain that goes from the third finger of the left hand directly to the heart. The Latins called it Vena Amori, which means The Vain of Love.

So that is a little about why we wear wedding rings and the history behind why we wear the ring on the left hand.

Now here are a few points to help you to think about which kind of ring to buy:

  1. There are several types of metals to choose from. There is of course gold, and then there is the more popular coloured gold, which is white gold. Then you have the more precious but more expensive platinum. Then the most rare and definately more expensive titanium. So there are the types of metals that are more commonly used in rings.

  2. Which type of ring to have such as a plain band or a band which is engraved with something special on it (like your partners name or the date of your wedding day). There are bands that are set with precious stones such as diamonds (remember that diamonds are a girl's best friend!). Then you can get celtic bands. And if you are going to have a comfort band that has rounded edges (these are good for men's rings and also people that use there hands a lot at work, as they do not catch so easily and are less likely to cause injuries).

You can get flat band rings that are good but they tend to have sharper edges (they are better if you are not working with your hands). Then you have the rings that are raised and rounded, they are comfortable and suit most people.

  3. Then you need to decide whether only the bride is going to wear a ring as in old tradition, or whether you are both going to wear a ring as is more common now. Which ever you chose it is a personal choice and there is no right or wrong, it is up to you.
